Privacy policy

This site collects as little as it can. There are no accounts, no forms that store your data, and no ad trackers. Here is exactly what happens when you visit.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages people use. It sets cookies in your browser and records things like the page you viewed, the site that sent you, your general location (city level), your device and browser type, and which restaurant links you click (Directions, Website or a phone number). Google processes this data under its own privacy policy.

We use this data only to see what's useful and to report page views and clicks to sponsors in aggregate. We never sell it and never share anything that identifies you.

To opt out, install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or block cookies for this site in your browser settings. The site works the same either way.

Live weather and alerts

The message board and the alerts page ask two public services for current conditions in Victorville: the National Weather Service for alerts and Open-Meteo for temperature and wind. Your browser makes these requests directly, so those services see your IP address the way any website does. We send them Victorville's coordinates, never yours.

Drive times, Caltrans road data, wildfire reports and air quality are fetched by our own server from Mapbox, Caltrans, the National Interagency Fire Center and Open-Meteo, so your browser never contacts those services for that data.

Light and dark mode

If you switch to dark mode, your browser saves that choice in local storage so the site remembers it next time. It stays on your device and is never sent to us.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and to keep the site running. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Email

If you email hello@victorvillecalifornia.com or use the contact form, we use your name, address and message only to reply. We don't add you to a mailing list. The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-friendly check that blocks spam bots without tracking you across sites.

Restaurant, park and event listings link to Google Maps and to businesses' own websites. Those sites have their own privacy policies.

Your choices

We don't hold personal data beyond what's described here. To ask what we have or to have it deleted, email hello@victorvillecalifornia.com. California residents can make these requests under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
