    California Route 66 Museum

    Volunteer-run museum in the former Red Rooster Cafe in Old Town, with rotating Route 66 exhibits and a room on Victorville history.

  • Mojave Riverwalk

    Paved walking and biking path from Victor Valley College to Mojave Narrows Regional Park, about 4 miles one way. There is little shade, so go in the morning or evening. Leashed dogs are fine.

  • High Desert Farmers Market

    Year-round Thursday morning market, running since 1992, now at the Victor Valley College lower campus.

    Airplane boneyard at SCLA

    Southern California Logistics Airport, the former George Air Force Base, has storage space for more than 500 aircraft, about 7 miles northwest of downtown. There are no tours. You can see aircraft from some public roads near Air Base Road, but most of the airport is restricted, so stay on public streets and obey the signs.

  • Doris Davies Park Pool

    The city's public pool, open for recreation swim in summer, with lessons, lap swim and aqua aerobics.

    Elmer's Bottle Tree Ranch

    Roadside folk art on Route 66 a few miles north of Victorville: a forest of metal "trees" hung with hundreds of colored glass bottles, built by the late Elmer Long. Pull off, walk through and take pictures. It is on private property, so be respectful.

  • Victor Valley Museum

    County museum in Apple Valley with a mastodon, Military in the Mojave, mining and minerals, and Curious City, a kid-sized town for pretend play.

    Calico Ghost Town

    An 1881 silver mining town restored by Walter Knott in the 1950s, with a mine tour, a small railroad and gold panning. California named it its official Silver Rush Ghost Town in 2005.

    53,000 acres of open desert for off-highway vehicles between I-15 and Highway 247. Green or red sticker registration and helmets are required, and all entrances are dirt roads.
